Each year Lida Bernard graciously hosts her Estrogen Equestrian Trailride at Bradley Palmer State Park. Friends show up to participate in the ride/walk and donations are made to WFTE.
Traditionally the majority of the riders are women, hence the name, however a few males here and there have been known to join in. It's a fabulous event and to be honest, one of the best parts is the meal Lida serves after the event. Her soup and cookies are to die for!
Thank you, Lida, for all your energy, spirit, and excitement.
Q. Where did you come up with the idea?
A. I wanted to get together with some riding friends for a ride through Bradley Palmer to see the beautiful fall foliage. I thought I would make lunch for everyone. Then it occured to me that it might be a good fundraiser for WFTE so I expanded the invite list...
Q. Where did the name come from?
A. Cheryl, a rider in the Tuesday class I volunteer in, suggested the name. The class consists entirely of women and was dubbed the 'estrogen equestians' so Cheryl thought the name could carry over into the trailride.
Q. What part of the day is the most fun?
A. Seeing all these women with their beautiful horses talking, eating, and laughing together. I wish I could express adequately and eloquently the thrill of seeing so many women sharing the joy of horses and riding on a gorgeous fall day while supporting the wonderful mission of Windrush.
Q. What is the most challenging part?
A. I guess would be the slicing and chopping pounds and pounds of vegetables for the soup.
Q. Tell me your funniest moment.
A. I guess that would be the time I got lost riding Wally and almost didn't get back in time to serve lunch. I haven't ridden again on the trailride since that day! :-)
Would you like to come this year? Check out the invitation.
Are you unable to come but would like to sponsor a rider/walker? Make a donation!
